Organic Wool Duvet
Hand-tufted organic wool that keeps the warm sleeper dry and gives warmth back to the cold one as the room cools. It is the piece couples tell us about most.
Best for two people a few degrees apart
Bedding for two people who run at different temperatures
Every couple we talk to has a version of this. One duvet, two bodies, and a nightly negotiation over how much of it goes where. There are two honest fixes, and neither of them is a thermostat.

If the gap between you is moderate, one wool duvet. Wool does not hold a single temperature the way a synthetic does. It takes moisture off the warm sleeper so their side stays dry and cool, and it gives warmth back to the cold sleeper as the room drops overnight, so each of you gets a different night under the same duvet. If the gap is wide, two twin duvets side by side on the bed, one wool and one cotton or two wools, the way most of Europe already sleeps. Nobody shares, nobody loses, and each of you can change your own duvet later without asking. Then a pillow each, chosen for the person rather than the pair.
The duvet is the shared decision. Everything under your head is individual, and treating it that way is what ends the argument.

Hand-tufted organic wool that keeps the warm sleeper dry and gives warmth back to the cold one as the room cools. It is the piece couples tell us about most.
Best for two people a few degrees apart

Dense layers of organic cotton batting, hand-tufted, with a grounded weight that a cold sleeper loves. Buy it in twin as the second half of a two-duvet bed.
Best for the one who wants weight and warmth

Same organic cotton sateen on both faces, a zipper along one side, and internal ties for the corner loops so each duvet stays on its own half of the bed.
Best for a two-duvet bed that stays tidy

Fitted sheet, flat sheet and two pillowcases in undyed 300 thread count sateen. The one layer you do share, so it needs to let moisture through for the warm sleeper.
Best for the bed under both of you

Takes the moisture off their face and neck into the fiber, so their side of the pillow stays dry. It is where the sweating wakes them.
Best for the partner who sleeps hot

Our most tightly packed fiber fill, a flat even plane of organic cotton that holds its shape for years. A good default for the partner whose complaint is neck rather than heat.
Best for the partner who sleeps neutral

Slip-on cases with no zip, sized to our pillows in standard, queen and king, so two different pillows can still look like one bed.
Best for finishing the bed
Why one synthetic duvet cannot suit two people
Polyester insulates. It traps a layer of warm air and keeps it there, which is fine when the two people under it want the same thing.
1
Their body puts out more heat and more moisture, and the synthetic holds both against them. They are damp inside an hour.
2
Which is the only control they have. Now half the bed is uncovered and the shared warm layer is gone.
3
They were only just warm enough, and they have been getting colder since the room dropped overnight.
4
Covering neither of you properly, and both of you surface out of deep sleep several times to renegotiate it.
Wool breaks the cycle because it does something different on each side. It moves moisture off the warm sleeper and gives heat back to the cold one, so nobody has to push it off in the first place.
How one duvet does two jobs
Wool fiber takes in water vapor, up to 30 percent of its own weight before the surface feels damp, and as it draws the moisture out of the air the heat leaves with it. Over the warm sleeper that keeps the air under the duvet dry, and dry is what their skin reads as cool. They stop pushing it off.
As the room cools toward morning, the wool releases the moisture it took in and gives a little heat back. Over the cold sleeper that is the warmth they had been reaching for since the room dropped. The two effects happen side by side under the same duvet, which is why a wool duvet is the one piece of bedding couples tend to agree on.
The two-duvet bed
Most of Scandinavia and Germany sleeps this way and has for generations. Two twin duvets lie side by side on a queen or king, each in its own cover, and each person sleeps under their own. Our twin is 72 by 90 inches, so a pair covers a 60 inch queen with a foot to spare on each side and a 76 inch king with room to tuck.
It means the warm sleeper can take a wool twin and the cold sleeper a cotton twin, or both take wool, and either of you can change your mind later without changing the bed. It also means nobody wakes up uncovered. The corner loops on our duvets tie into the cover so each half stays where it was put.
The part nobody shares
The duvet is a shared decision and it deserves a compromise. The pillow is not, and the most common mistake couples make is buying two of the same one. The hot sleeper wants wool, because the air at their face is where they wake up and wool keeps it dry. The other person wants whatever suits their neck and the way they lie, and heat has nothing to do with it.
Every Circadian pillow opens at the side so each of you can set your own height, and they all wear the same organic cotton pillowcase, so two different pillows still read as one bed. Our pillow quiz sorts each of you separately in about a minute.
The thermostat, the extra blanket and the dual-zone mattress all try to fix the room. The problem is the layer.
| The fix | What it does | Where it falls down |
|---|---|---|
| One organic wool duvet | Moves moisture off the warm sleeper, gives heat back to the cold one | A very wide gap does even better on two twins |
| Two twin duvets, one each | Each person sleeps under their own choice, wool or cotton | A cover for each duvet |
| One synthetic duvet plus a blanket | The cold sleeper adds a layer on their side | The warm sleeper is still damp under the polyester, and the blanket migrates |
| Turning the thermostat down | Cools the room for everyone | The cold sleeper is now colder, and the warm one is still sweating under the same duvet |
| A dual-zone heated or cooled mattress pad | Changes the surface temperature on each side | Runs on electricity all night and does nothing about the moisture under the duvet |
| Two of the same pillow | Looks tidy | One of you is sleeping on the wrong pillow |
One wool duvet in a queen or king. It keeps the warm side dry and gives warmth back on the cold side as the room cools, and it is the simplest change you can make.
Organic Wool Duvet ›Two twin duvets, a wool one for the sweater and a cotton one for the cold sleeper, each in its own cover. Nobody shares and nobody loses.
Organic Cotton Duvet, in twin ›Stop buying a matched pair. Wool for whoever runs hot, and for the other person whatever suits how they lie. Our quiz sorts each of you in a minute.
Organic Wool Pillow ›Begin with the sheet set, since it is the one layer you share, then choose the duvet arrangement above, then a pillow each. Our complete bed page walks through it in order.
Organic Cotton Sheet Set ›A wool duvet, for most couples. Wool takes moisture off the warm sleeper so their side stays dry and cool, and it gives warmth back to the cold sleeper as the room drops overnight, so each of you gets a different night under the same duvet. Couples who are very far apart do better with two twin duvets side by side.
Two twin duvets lie side by side on a queen or king, each in its own cover, and each person sleeps under their own. Our twin is 72 by 90 inches, so a pair covers a queen with a foot spare each side and a king with room to tuck.
Yes, and it is the arrangement we suggest most for a sweaty sleeper next to a cold one. Both duvets are hand-tufted with corner loops that tie into their covers, and they are close in weight, about a pound apart per size, so the bed does not look lopsided.
Two twins are 144 inches wide side by side and a king mattress is 76, so there is plenty to tuck. A queen is 60 inches wide, which leaves about a foot of overhang on each side. If you like a large drop over the edge of the bed, a queen duvet each is the other way to do it.
For most cold sleepers, yes. Wool holds warmth when the room cools and releases moisture when you heat up, so it is warm in January without being clammy in July. Someone who is cold in every season may prefer the cotton duvet as their twin, which has a denser, more grounded weight.
The one who sleeps hot takes wool, because the air at their face is where they wake up and wool keeps it dry. The other person chooses by how they lie and what their neck needs, and our quiz sorts that in about a minute. Buying two of the same pillow is the most common way couples get this wrong.
One per duvet. Ours has a zipper along one side and internal ties at the corners that take the loops on the duvet, so each half of a two-duvet bed stays on its own side. They are the same organic cotton sateen on both faces, so the two halves match.
A cotton sheet that lets moisture through. The sheet is the layer the warm sleeper's sweat has to cross before the wool can take it, and a polyester or heavily finished sheet blocks it. Ours are 300 thread count long-staple organic cotton sateen, undyed and without a finish.
If you are taking one wool duvet, the king, which is 96 by 110 inches. If you are going to two duvets, two twins at 72 by 90 each, or two queens if you want more drop over the sides. Buy the cover in the same size name as the duvet going inside it.
Send that piece back inside 60 nights. Free shipping. Buying for the person rather than the pair means one of you changing your mind does not undo the other one's bed.
A wool duvet that does a different job on each side, or two twins so each of you sleeps under your own. Handmade in our New Jersey workshop.

If you've sent more pillows back than you've kept, you're our customer.
“I have owned more pillows than I have owned houses and I have owned 12 houses.” This is by far the only pillow to use if you don’t want to wake up with sore shoulders or neck. I have replaced all the pillows in my house with this pillow.
I have compressed discs in my neck, and I have spent hundreds of dollars over the past 6 months trying to find one that will help me sleep. Every pillow I bought caused me to wake up in even more pain than the night before!! The buckwheat pillow is life-changing!! I have slept through the night and wake up with no pain!!
I was leery to try another expensive pillow without some sort of trial period after being very let down by a different company's natural fiber pillow… I don't hear anything at all with the buckwheat! It does stay fresh and cool as well, but most importantly it actually holds my head/neck up and in place. Which allows me to actually get rest instead of always adjusting.
I've been a buckwheat pillow customer for the last 7 years and I can say that Circadian has the highest standards of quality paired with incredible customer service. Very very impressed and would not hesitate to send anyone their way.
I have spent years searching for a pillow that feels supportive and comfortable all night. I have finally found it. I absolutely love the Buckwool pillow. I removed a bit of the material to get it to exactly how I want it… I rarely wake up with neck pain now.
I find myself switching between the two and loving the feel of both. I haven't woken up with a sweaty head with either and that's an amazing feeling especially in the AZ summer. The buckwheat side is a lot quieter and more comfy/soft than others I've tried in the past.
I have tried at least 10 different pillows in the last 3 years. Nothing has worked out except for this wool pillow. I have chronic neck pain which has been greatly reduced. I am very happy with my new pillow.
I have pretty bad chemical sensitivity (housebound most of the time)… I try to only buy totally safe, non-toxic products. I found this pillow to be very safe and non-toxic, and the packaging was fragrance free which is always a huge plus.
I ordered this pillow to replace my very old (but beloved) down pillow and I'm so glad I did. It is heavenly!… I advise you to heed the recommendation given by the quiz. I ordered cotton initially despite the quiz giving me kapok as a result… the quiz was right.
The quality craftsmanship and materials is evident… when I asked if extra stuffing were available for the second one I'm using as a knee pillow, they not only pointed me to the right place on their site, but also created a new, smaller 1-lb. refill size based on my request.
