How to use it
Fluff the kapok by hand first to open the fibers. Open the zipper on the short end on your existing pillow and add a handful at a time until the loft sits where you want.
Gathered by hand from fallen pods
The pods ripen and fall, and people gather the fiber by hand. It is separated from the seeds and cleaned, and it is never bleached or chemically treated.
Hollow microtube fiber
Each kapok fiber is 80 to 90% air by volume, with a wall thickness of one to two microns. The structure is why kapok is the lightest natural fiber on earth.
Wild-harvested kapok grows inside seed pods on Ceiba pentandra trees in Indonesian rainforests. The pods shed and fall from the trees on their own, get picked clean by hand, and the fiber ships without passing through a single chemical process, because the raw material arrives soft and clean enough to use as it is.
When a Circadian Wild-Harvested Kapok Pillow eventually sits too low, this refill brings it back without replacing the pillow. It is the same wild-harvested kapok fiber used in every Circadian Wild-Harvested Kapok Pillow, sold by weight so you can bring back the height you started with. Open the zipper on the pillow's short end, add kapok by hand until the height feels right, seal it back up. Kapok is the lightest natural fiber on earth, so a small amount adds noticeable height.
Origin and processing
Wild-harvested in Indonesia from naturally fallen Ceiba pentandra pods. The fiber's waxy coating keeps it too dry for dust mites to settle in, and because it is plant-based there are none of the feather allergens that come with down. Our kapok is wild-harvested. The pods ripen, split and fall, and people gather them by hand, and the fiber is never bleached or chemically treated. The cover on your pillow is organic cotton.
How much kapok you need
Kapok is the lightest natural fiber on earth, so a pound of it is a great deal more volume than a pound of cotton. These are the weights we build each size to:

Which means 1 lb tops up any pillow and rebuilds a travel one outright. 3 lb rebuilds a Standard. 5 lb does a King with some left over. 10 lb is the body pillow size.
Kapok settles faster than the other materials because the hollow fibers compact under your head, so a shake every few days buys you a long time before you need any of them.
How to use it
Open the zipper on the short end of your Circadian Kapok Pillow and add kapok by handful, shaking it loose as you go because the fiber packs down in the bag and opens up when released. Kapok sleeps best built into a soft mound, so give it a daily shake, pushing the edges toward the center, to keep it full. A daily shake also extends the time between refills.
Why kapok feels different
Each kapok fiber is a hollow microtube, 80 to 90 percent air by volume, with walls only 1 to 2 microns thick. That hollow structure is why kapok feels like down and why it's the lightest natural fiber on earth. The fiber's cell wall has a natural waxy coating that repels liquid water, which is why kapok resists mold and mildew without any treatment.

Can I use this in any kapok pillow?
Yes. The fiber works in any zippered kapok pillow, ours or another brand. Open the zipper, fluff the new kapok by hand to open the fibers, then add a handful at a time until the loft matches where you want it.
How often should I refill a kapok pillow?
Most people top off every three to five years. Kapok settles a little with nightly use, which is one trade-off for the down-like softness. Adding fresh fiber restores the cloud feel without replacing the pillow.
Is the kapok organic?
Our kapok is wild-harvested, and it carries no organic certification. The pods ripen and fall on their own, and people gather them by hand. The fiber is separated from the seeds and cleaned. It is never bleached or chemically treated, so what goes into your pillow is the fiber the pod grew.
Where does the kapok come from?
Indonesian rainforests, from Ceiba pentandra trees. The pods drop on their own and are gathered wild. Before World War II, almost all the world's kapok came from Java. Each fiber is a hollow tube, mostly air, which makes kapok the lightest natural fiber on earth.
Is kapok chemically processed?
No. The fiber receives no chemical processing of any kind on the way from the pod to the bag. The pods are manually picked clean, the fiber is separated from the seeds, and it ships. Nothing was bleached, softened, or chemically treated.
