Polyester batting
Most down alternative comforters are filled with polyester, which is spun from oil. It is the same family of plastic as a water bottle.
PFAS in the finish
A 2022 consumer-safety test of four comforters found PFAS in all four. It travels with stain- and water-resistant finishes.
Formaldehyde finishes
A government study of 180 textile items found ten over 75 parts per million of formaldehyde, and four of those ten were bedding.
Ours are GOTS Certified Organic as finished comforters. The Global Organic Textile Standard does not allow formaldehyde or PFAS as inputs, and an auditor checks the workshop every year.

Wool holds warmth when the room cools and lets heat go when you warm up, so you stop kicking the covers off at night.
The fiber takes moisture off your skin as you warm up, up to 30 percent of its own weight. When you cool down, it lets the moisture go again. That back and forth is what keeps you one temperature under it.
It feels full and lofty without pressing down on you. The wool comes from certified organic farms in New Zealand, inside a 300-thread-count organic cotton sateen case that is soft against your skin.

Organic Wool Comforter
Lofty and light, one temperature all night.
The pick for hot sleepers and anyone who wakes up too warm, and it still keeps you warm on a cold night. It is the lighter of the two, about 9 pounds at Queen. Wool comes from sheep, so choose cotton if you want a vegan comforter.
Organic Cotton Comforter
Dense and even, with a grounded weight.
Layers of organic cotton batting drape over you with a steady weight, about 12 pounds at Queen, and stay cool to the touch. It is the down alternative comforter made without polyester, and it is vegan.
Hand-tufted, so the wool or cotton stays where it was put.
Each comforter is filled and tufted by hand in a GOTS certified workshop in New Jersey.
The tufts hold the fill in place, so it cannot shift or clump into one end. A loop at each corner fastens to the ties inside a duvet cover, so the comforter stays put in its cover through the night.
It is a duvet insert, sold on its own. Our Organic Cotton Duvet Cover has a tie at each corner that fastens to those loops. In a cover, with care, a comforter like this lasts about 10 to 15 years.

A few last questions.
Is it a comforter or a duvet insert?
Both names fit. It goes inside a duvet cover, and a loop at each corner ties it in place. The cover is sold separately.
Which is better for a hot sleeper?
Wool lets heat go when you warm up and holds it when you cool, so you stay one temperature through the night. It does that by taking moisture off your skin and letting it go again. Cotton breathes well and stays cool to the touch, and suits someone who wants more weight on them.
Is it certified organic?
Yes. Both comforters are GOTS Certified Organic as finished products, the fill inside as well as the case, under license GOTS-10229 through Oregon Tilth.
How do I clean it?
Keep it in a duvet cover and wash the cover. For a mark, spot clean with cool water and a little mild soap. Let it dry in the sun. Never machine wash or dry clean it.
