Most comforters are polyester that sheds microplastics, or down treated to repel stains and mildew. You pull it up to your chin and breathe the air just above it until morning.
Both of ours are certified organic through every layer, the fill, the shell, and the thread, so there's nothing to off-gas. A new one smells like cotton or wool, because that's all it is.

The duvet is the insert. Slip it into a removable organic cotton cover and wash the cover, not the fill. The cotton is hand-tufted throughout and the wool is held in place the same way, so the loft stays even for the life of the duvet instead of shifting into a lump at one end.
Air the wool in the sun each season and it springs back. Wash the cotton cover cold. That's the whole routine.

Cotton or wool, which should I get?
Cotton if you want a cool, grounded weight and sleep warm on your own. Wool if your temperature swings, because it holds warmth when the room cools and releases it when you heat up, so one duvet carries you through every season. Wool also keeps dust mites out on its own.
Is it just the insert?
Yes. The duvet is the insert that goes inside your own duvet cover. Keeping it in a cover is what keeps it clean, so you wash the cover and leave the fill alone.
How do I wash it?
Wash the cover, not the insert. Spot clean the cotton and machine wash cold on gentle only when it needs more. Never machine wash the wool, air it in the sun instead.
What if it isn't right for me?
Sleep under it for 60 nights. If it isn't right, send it back and we cover shipping both ways. Most orders arrive in four to seven days.
