For most buyers, a Circadian pillow with one fill: the Wild-Harvested Kapok Pillow for a soft, light pillow, or the Tree-Tapped Latex Pillow for one that pushes back instead of sinking, each one made to order by hand in New Jersey, in four sizes, with 60 nights to decide.

The Avocado Green Pillow is 70 percent shredded latex and 30 percent kapok by weight in one bag, certified organic as a finished pillow, with a 100-night trial, and made in Tecate, Mexico, per their product page. Circadian makes each of those fills as its own pillow: the Wild-Harvested Kapok Pillow, soft and light like down, and the Tree-Tapped Latex Pillow, which pushes back instead of sinking. Why ours, in five lines

  1. One fill in each of these two: kapok for a soft, light pillow, latex for one that pushes back instead of sinking. The Green Pillow is 70 percent latex and 30 percent kapok in one bag, and a three-star review on their page says that once some was taken out, "the stuffing shifts out from under my head as I sleep."
  2. Our Wild-Harvested Kapok Pillow is about 2.3 lb at Standard, the lightest of our six. The Green Pillow is 3.4 lb at Standard, per their page, and a four-star review there calls the pillows "enormously heavy and awkward to move around."
  3. You get 60 nights to sleep on the pillow. Send it back inside 60 nights, even slept on, and you get a full refund once it reaches us, with a prepaid return label and no restocking fee. Avocado takes a pillow back only "in a condition suitable for donation" with the law tag attached, and a return before their 30-day minimum carries a 15% fee, per their trial page.
  4. Ours are made to order by hand in our New Jersey workshop. Their product page says the Green Pillow is made in Tecate, Mexico, and quotes a law label reading "Made in California with domestic and imported material."
  5. No height can be calculated for you. A 2021 review in Healthcare looked for the right pillow height and found no optimum for back or side sleeping, and no link between the height that works and the measurements of a sleeper's head or neck. Every pillow we make opens at the zipper, and we sell a refill bag for every fill, so you can reset the height whenever you need to.

What Avocado does well

Avocado gives 100 nights to try the Green Pillow, on up to two pillows per order, with no restocking or return shipment fee. It calls the Green Pillow its top recommendation for combination sleepers who shift positions through the night. Back sleepers who like push-back and bounce may prefer Avocado's latex and kapok blend.

Its product page prints two certificate numbers for the finished pillow: GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) under Control Union CU863637, and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 at Product Class I, certificate 24.HUS.86422. Vegan Action has certified the pillow and its manufacturing. Their page carried 6,620 reviews at 4.5 stars when we read it.

Avocado blends shredded latex and kapok in one pillow and makes a curved Side-Sleeper shape. We make neither.

Is a contoured pillow better for side sleepers?

Not in the two trials that compared them, and neither trial tested Avocado's shape. Its curved Side-Sleeper pillow is filled with shredded latex and kapok, not a solid foam contour. In blinded trials of side sleepers (Gordon 2009 and 2010), a contoured foam pillow did no better than regular-shaped pillows.

One buyer reports one. A four-star review on their page says "It did have an odor when I received it," and that a charcoal odor remover "seemed to work well." Their terms also say the pillows may contain a trace amount of polyurethane foam, because they are made in a facility that also makes foam pillows. Our Organic Cotton and Organic Wool pillows are GOTS Certified Organic (Global Organic Textile Standard), license GOTS-10229, issued by Oregon Tilth. Our kapok and latex pillows have organic cotton covers: the kapok is wild-harvested, so "organic" does not apply, and the latex fill is OEKO-TEX Standard 100, Class 1.

What is the Avocado Green Pillow made of?

By weight, 70 percent shredded latex and 30 percent kapok, in an organic cotton jersey liner inside a quilted cover that is 97 percent organic cotton and 3 percent elastane, per their law label and product page. Our Wild-Harvested Kapok Pillow is wild-harvested kapok in an organic cotton cover, and our Tree-Tapped Latex Pillow is shredded slow-pour Dunlop latex, 100% Hevea sap, in an organic cotton cover.

Is the Avocado Green Pillow safe with a latex allergy?

No. It is 70 percent shredded latex by fill weight, per their law label. Our Tree-Tapped Latex Pillow is latex too, so it is not for a latex allergy either. For a latex allergy, choose our Organic Cotton, Wild-Harvested Kapok or Organic Wool Pillow.

Which Circadian pillow is closest to the Avocado Green Pillow?

What does each trial require, Avocado or Circadian?

Avocado gives 100 nights on up to two pillows per order, with no restocking or return shipment fee, as long as the pillow comes back in a condition suitable for donation with the law tag attached. A return before their 30-day minimum carries a 15% fee, and the original shipping is not refunded, per their pages. We give 60 nights. A pillow sent back inside that window gets a full refund once it reaches us, even if you slept on it, and the return label is prepaid with no restocking fee.

Where are Avocado pillows made?

Their product page says the Green Pillow is made in their facility in Tecate, Mexico, and it also quotes a law label that reads "Made in California with domestic and imported material." Both are their words. Every Circadian pillow is made by hand to order, in a New Jersey workshop that has been making pillows since 1981.

Does the fill shift out from under your head once you remove some?

One three-star review on their page says so: "when I take some stuffing out of the pillow, the stuffing shifts out from under my head as I sleep." Our kapok needs fluffing a few times a week or it settles toward the edges, so a shake puts it back.
