Made in the USA, by hand in New Jersey.

Keep a second cover and a wash never costs you a night. Add the waterproof cover.

The bed is the part you choose. The cover is the part that decides how long you keep it.

Neither wool nor latex goes in a washing machine, so everything that lands on a dog bed has to stop before it reaches them. This cover does that. The barrier is an ultra-thin cornstarch-based TPU film, sandwiched between two layers of organic cotton knit and less than a tenth of the total fabric. It holds liquid at the surface long enough for you to lift the whole thing off and put it in the wash, which turns an accident into a laundry cycle rather than the end of the bed. Cotton is what your dog lies on, and cotton is what touches the bed.

The finished cover is certified organic under Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) license GOTS-10229, issued by Oregon Tilth and audited on site every year. The audit covers the cover you receive, which is worth saying plainly.

It unzips along one long side and comes off in one piece. It is machine washable: wash it cold on a gentle cycle, line dry, and put it back on damp, which is far easier than fighting a dry one. Made in the USA, cut and sewn by hand in New Jersey. Ask us for the certificate and we will send it.

Why most people end up with two

A cover in the wash is a bed with nothing on it, and a dog does not wait. The second one lives in the cupboard and goes on while the first one dries.

A few questions

Is this waterproof or water-resistant?
Waterproof. There is a barrier layer, and liquid stops at the surface rather than soaking through.

Does it feel like plastic?
No. The face against your dog is organic cotton and that is what they lie on. The barrier sits behind it.

Will it fit a bed I already own?
It fits every Circadian dog bed in the matching size. On another brand's bed, measure first, because a 40 by 27 from one maker is rarely a 40 by 27 from another.

How do I wash it?
Cold, gentle, and let it air dry or tumble on low. Put it back on while it is still slightly damp and it goes on in half the time.

What does the certification cover?
The finished cover, not just the fabric it was cut from. License GOTS-10229 through Oregon Tilth, renewed on an on-site audit every year. Ask us for the certificate and we will send it.

What the cover is for

Stop it at the surface and the bed survives.

Everything that lands on a dog bed has to stop before it reaches the material underneath. Water resistant is not the same promise: a spill slows down and soaks through anyway. This is properly waterproof, and it is machine washable, so liquid sits on top long enough for you to lift the whole cover off and put it in the wash. That turns an accident into a laundry cycle rather than the end of the bed.

Organic cotton on both sides of it

Two layers of organic cotton knit with the barrier in between, so cotton is what your dog lies on and cotton is what touches the bed. It does not crackle and it does not feel like a plastic sheet.

The barrier starts as cornstarch

An ultra-thin cornstarch-based TPU film, less than a tenth of the total fabric. That is the whole reason a waterproof cover can still breathe and still feel like cloth. It is the same thinking as the rest of the range: solve it with the material rather than with a coating.

Certified as a finished cover

Certified organic under Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) license GOTS-10229 through Oregon Tilth, audited on site every year. The audit covers the cover you receive, not only the cloth it was cut from. Ask us for the certificate and we will send it.

Machine washable, and put it back on damp

Wipe it down between washes. When it needs a proper one, machine wash cold on a gentle cycle and line dry, then pull it back over the insert while it is still slightly damp. It goes on in half the time that way.

Most people end up with two

A cover in the wash is a bed with nothing on it, and a dog does not wait. The second one lives in the cupboard and goes on while the first one dries.

Getting the size right

Match the cover to the bed, not to the dog.

Buy the size you already own. If you are buying the bed at the same time, the size finder on the dog bed page measures the dog. On another brand's bed, measure the bed first, because a 40 by 27 from one maker is rarely a 40 by 27 from another.

CoverFits the bedDog it is usually on
Small 21 × 14Small 21 × 14 × 4Up to about 15 lb. Yorkie, Chihuahua, Pomeranian, cats and puppies.
Medium 28 × 21Medium 28 × 21 × 4About 15 to 30 lb. French Bulldog, Cavalier, Pug, Dachshund.
Large 40 × 27Large 40 × 27 × 6About 30 to 80 lb. Beagle, Corgi, Labrador, Golden Retriever.
X-Large 54 × 36X-Large 54 × 36 × 680 lb and up. German Shepherd, Great Dane, Bernese, Mastiff.

Every measurement is in inches. The two largest beds are six inches deep rather than four, and the cover is cut to suit.

What your dog is not lying on

Checked by someone else.

What's not in the cover.

A dog bed cover has one job and most of them fail it: they are water resistant rather than waterproof, so a spill slows down and soaks through anyway, and the material underneath is finished. This one has a barrier layer behind the cotton, so liquid stops at the surface and the whole cover lifts off in one piece and goes in the wash. The face your dog lies on is organic cotton and that is what they feel. The finished cover is certified organic under Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) license GOTS-10229 through Oregon Tilth, audited on site every year, and the audit covers the cover you receive rather than only the cloth it was cut from.

License GOTS-10229, issued by Oregon Tilth, held against the Global Organic Textile Standard and renewed on an on-site audit every year.

The specification

What the waterproof cover is actually made of.

Most waterproof pet bedding is a plastic sheet with cloth over it, and you can hear it. This is built the other way round: the barrier is an ultra-thin film, and there is organic cotton on both sides of it.

I couldn't find a dog bed I trusted. So I made one.

Most dog beds are polyester over foam. The middle goes flat where your dog lies, and the foam off-gasses. I made ours from wool or latex instead, with no flame retardant or stain finish. Every bed is sewn by hand in New Jersey and made to order.

Questions about this cover

Is this waterproof or water-resistant?

Waterproof. There is a barrier layer behind the cotton, and liquid stops at the surface rather than soaking through to the wool or the latex underneath.

Does it feel like plastic?

No. The face your dog lies on is cotton and that is what they feel. The barrier sits behind it.

Why would I want a second one?

A cover in the wash is a bed with nothing on it, and a dog does not wait. The second one lives in the cupboard and goes on while the first one dries.

Will it fit a bed I already own?

It fits every Circadian dog bed in the matching size. On another brand's bed, measure first, because a 40 by 27 from one maker is rarely a 40 by 27 from another.

How do I wash it?

Cold and gentle, then air dry or tumble on low. Put it back on while it is still slightly damp and it goes on in half the time.

What does the certification cover?

The finished cover, not just the fabric it was cut from. License GOTS-10229 through Oregon Tilth, renewed on an on-site audit every year. Ask us for the certificate and we will send it.

Does the cover go under the dog or over the bed?

Over the bed. The insert goes inside it and the zipper runs along one long side, so the whole thing comes off in one piece when you need to wash it.

Can I use it on its own?

No. It is a cover, so it needs an insert inside it. If you have a Circadian dog bed already, buy the matching size and it goes straight on.

What is the waterproof barrier made of?

An ultra-thin cornstarch-based TPU film, sandwiched between two layers of organic cotton knit and less than a tenth of the total fabric. That is why the cover still breathes and still feels like cloth rather than like a plastic sheet. Cotton is what your dog lies on, and cotton is what touches the bed.

Is the cover machine washable?

Yes. Wipe it down between washes. When it needs a proper one, machine wash cold on a gentle cycle and line dry.

Put it back on while it is still slightly damp and it goes on in half the time. On a natural-fill bed the cover is the part meant to be washed, which is why it comes off in one piece.

Where is it made?

Made in the USA, by hand, in a New Jersey workshop that has been making bedding since 1981. The organic cotton is grown and certified elsewhere; the cover is cut and sewn here.
