Six natural fills, made by hand.

Most pillows are polyester or foam. Polyester sheds microplastics, and foam can off-gas as it warms under your head. Ours are cotton, wool, kapok, buckwheat or latex, inside an organic cotton cover. Each one feels different, so pick by how you sleep.

A Circadian Organic Cotton Pillow on a live-edge wood table with its end unzipped and cotton spilling out, with The Good Trade seal, Top 5 organic pillows, and the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) label: Organic, certified by OTCO, GOTS-10229.

Cotton

Firm cotton that keeps its height.

Set the height once and wake up at that height. Cotton is our most tightly packed fiber, so it gives way slowly under your head.

Best for First natural pillow, every sleep position, lasting firmness

Feel
Dense, sinks slowly, then holds
Lasts
2 to 4 years
Certified
GOTS, the whole pillow
More about cotton

Most pillows go flat in a season. Cotton settles evenly under your weight instead of clumping at the corners. The support you feel the first night is the support you feel a year later.

The cotton under your face was never bleached with chlorine or treated with formaldehyde resins. The whole pillow is certified under GOTS, the Global Organic Textile Standard, license GOTS-10229 through Oregon Tilth. Most pillows labeled organic certify only the cover.

For most people it is the right first natural pillow. The cover comes off and washes, which makes allergy care easy. The cotton is grown in Texas and the pillow is made by hand in New Jersey.

Wool

You stay cool because you stay dry.

Wool keeps you at one steady temperature all night, winter and summer. It pulls damp away from your skin before you feel it, and your heat leaves with the damp.

Best for Hot sleepers, night sweats, dust mite allergies, side and back

Feel
Springy and soft, a medium feel
Lasts
3 to 5 years
Certified
GOTS, the whole pillow
More about wool

Wool takes up to 30% of its weight in moisture and lets it go as vapor, and the heat goes with it. A cooling gel warms to match you and then stops. Wool keeps going until morning.

Most dust allergy is an allergy to dust mites, and mites need damp air to live. The air at your face stays too dry for them to settle in. That comes from the fiber itself, so it lasts as long as the wool does.

The whole pillow is certified organic under GOTS, from the New Zealand wool to the cover, license GOTS-10229. Wool is not vegan, so the Wild-Harvested Kapok Pillow is our plant-based pick.

Our Wild-Harvested Kapok Pillow on a green linen bed. Soft, fluffy kapok spills from the open zipper.

Kapok

As soft as down, from a tree.

Kapok is the softest pillow we make and the closest thing to down. Each fiber is a hollow tube that is mostly air, so it fluffs up full and light. It is wild-harvested, so nobody farms it. The pods fall from rainforest trees in Indonesia and are gathered by hand.

Best for Down lovers, vegans, sensitive skin, stomach and back sleepers

Feel
Softest, cloud-like
Lasts
3 to 5 years
Weight
Six times lighter than cotton
More about kapok

The pods ripen and fall on their own, and people gather them from the ground. Nobody climbs the trees, and the trees stay standing.

Kapok feels weightless because each fiber is 80 to 90% air, the lightest natural fiber on Earth. A natural wax on the fiber turns water away, and mold and dust mites both need moisture to get going. It arrives with no chemical finish to off-gas.

Push the edges to the center for a quick fluff. It builds a soft mound that shapes to your head. The cover is organic cotton.

A Circadian Buckwheat Pillow on a live-edge wood table with its end unzipped and buckwheat hulls spilling out, with seals: rated Best by The Clean List, and handmade in the USA from USA-grown buckwheat.

Buckwheat

Your neck stays in line all night.

Press your head into buckwheat and it stays where you put it. The hulls shift under your weight, then lock together. They fill the gap between your head and shoulder, so your neck stays in line.

Best for Neck pain, firm support, hot sleepers, back and side

Feel
Firm and moldable
Lasts
3 to 5 years, hulls refresh
Hulls
Grown in the USA
More about buckwheat

Buckwheat is the coolest pillow we make. Air moves freely between the hulls, so warm air rises out and cooler air comes in all night.

The hulls flex under your head and then lock. The height you set at bedtime is the height you wake up on, and the pillow is heavy enough to stay put on the bed.

Our hulls are pre-polished and air-jet cleaned, which cuts the rustle they make by up to 68%. The Buckwool Hybrid pairs the same hulls with soft, silent wool on its other side.

Buckwool

Firm one side, soft the other.

Buckwool is buckwheat, upgraded. One side is firm hulls that hold your neck in line. The other is soft, quiet organic wool that keeps you cool. Flip it to switch.

Best for Neck pain that changes, anyone who swaps pillows mid-night

Feel
Sand-firm side, cloud-soft side
Lasts
3 to 5 years
Weight
About 10 pounds
More about buckwool

It is built for sleepers whose neck pain changes from night to night. The buckwheat side is there for the stiff nights and the wool side for the gentler ones.

You set the height of each side on its own. Two chambers sit inside one cover, split by a fabric divider, and one zipper opens both.

At about 8 pounds in a Standard, its weight keeps the buckwheat side steady. The wool side is organic and untreated, the cover is organic cotton, and the hulls are grown in the USA.

A Circadian Tree-Tapped Latex Pillow on a bed with its zipper open and soft, airy pieces of latex spilling out, with seals: rated Best by The Clean List, and handmade in the USA.

Latex

Bouncy latex from a rubber tree.

Latex lifts your head and springs back instead of sinking. It has the give people like in foam, without the trapped heat. Air moves through the pieces all night, so it stays cool.

Best for Memory foam fans who sleep too warm

Feel
Light, bouncy, lifting
Lasts

Certified
OEKO-TEX Class 1 latex
More about latex

The sap comes from rubber trees in Sri Lanka, tapped like maple syrup on FSC certified plantations. It is whipped into foam and poured slowly, so it cures denser and more even than mass-market Dunlop.

It comes in pieces, so you add or take out latex through the zipper until the height is yours. Air moves between the pieces and through the latex, which is why it stays cool with no gel.

The latex is certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class 1, the strictest tier, set for baby products. It is tested for formaldehyde, PFAS and more. With a latex allergy, choose cotton, wool or kapok.

How do Circadian natural pillow fills compare?

Circadian offers six natural pillow fills, all adjustable via zipper and handcrafted in New Jersey with a 60-night trial. The Buckwool Hybrid Pillow (from $99) combines buckwheat on one side and organic wool on the other for two different feels, best for neck and back pain in combination sleepers. The Organic Cotton Pillow (from $89) is GOTS certified organic inside and out, with a dense, supportive medium firmness that holds its shape, best for back sleepers. The Organic Wool Pillow (from $99) is GOTS certified organic with a medium-soft feel that wicks up to 30% of its weight in moisture, best for allergies and hot sleepers. The Buckwheat Pillow (from $89) uses USA-grown hulls for firm, moldable support that stays cool as air flows between hulls, best for neck pain and side sleepers. The Wild-Harvested Kapok Pillow (from $79) is the softest fill and the closest natural alternative to down, plant-based and vegan, best for chemical-sensitive sleepers, vegans, and stomach sleepers. The Tree-Tapped Latex Pillow (from $89) uses slow-pour Dunlop natural latex pieces for a light, bouncy, responsive feel with an open-cell structure that runs cool all night.

Which Circadian pillow is best for side sleepers?

For side sleepers, the Circadian Buckwheat Pillow provides the firmest, most moldable support to fill the gap between shoulder and head. The Tree-Tapped Latex Pillow holds a steady, supportive height under your neck and keeps its shape. The Organic Cotton Pillow offers dense, supportive medium firmness. The Buckwool Hybrid Pillow lets side sleepers choose between firm buckwheat and soft organic wool nightly.

Which Circadian pillow is best for hot sleepers?

The Circadian Buckwheat Pillow is the coolest because air flows naturally between the hulls. The Organic Wool Pillow actively regulates temperature and is naturally too dry for dust mites. The Wild-Harvested Kapok Pillow is naturally cool because kapok fibers are 80 to 90% air. The Tree-Tapped Latex Pillow breathes well due to its open-cell structure.

Which Circadian pillow is best for stomach sleepers?

The Circadian Wild-Harvested Kapok Pillow (from $79) is the best for stomach sleepers. Kapok is extremely soft and lightweight, and the pillow can be adjusted to sit very flat. The Organic Wool Pillow (from $99) also works because wool compresses naturally.

Which Circadian pillow is best for neck pain?

The Circadian Buckwheat Pillow (from $89) is the most recommended natural pillow for neck pain. Buckwheat hulls mold closely to head and neck contours and hold that shape all night. The Buckwool Hybrid Pillow (from $99) is an excellent alternative with buckwheat support on one side and organic wool on the other.

What is the best natural alternative to memory foam pillows?

The Circadian Tree-Tapped Latex Pillow (from $89) is a natural-latex choice for people moving away from memory foam. Slow-pour Dunlop natural latex from rubber tree sap has an open-cell structure that breathes through the night. The slow-pour process gives a denser, more uniform foam than mass-market Dunlop.
