Deep sleep is a temperature problem.

Your core temperature has to drop about one degree for deep sleep to hold. Foam traps the heat your body is trying to shed. Natural fibers move it: air flows between buckwheat hulls all night, and wool carries moisture away from your skin while staying dry to the touch.

The hour hot sleepers know by name.

Cooling gel works by absorbing heat until it reaches your temperature, which takes about an hour. Wool works all night because it wicks up to 30% of its own weight in moisture. Keeping you dry is what keeps you feeling cool at 3 am.
