Saatva is open about what goes into its Organic Quilted pillow, its premium natural option: a shredded natural latex core inside an organic cotton cover quilted with organic New Zealand wool. That is a latex pillow with a wool-quilted organic cover. Whether that is what you wanted is now your call rather than a guess.
- Saatva describes the Organic Quilted pillow as a shredded natural latex core in an organic cotton cover quilted with organic wool.
- Saatva states the latex core is certified natural latex and the cotton and wool covering is GOTS certified.
- Saatva's latex pillows come in two set heights, and there are no exchanges on bedding.
Reading a law label, which is the most useful skill in bedding
Most US states require a law label on every pillow and mattress sold there: the tag you are told not to remove. It declares what is inside, by percentage. It is the one piece of writing about a pillow that nobody in marketing controls.
Most brands never show you theirs, so read the tag on any pillow you already own. It is the quickest way to check the following for yourself.
Three things to look for. The percentages tell you what the pillow mostly is, and the largest number is the real answer whatever the product name says. The cover is listed apart from the contents, so an organic cover over an uncertified material shows up plainly. And a material listed as "shredded" behaves differently from the same material in a solid piece.
What is in the air above a pillow
You breathe across a pillow for a third of your life. Your face is a few inches away and the material is warm all night. So it is fair to ask what the material gives off, and there is published work on it.
A 2018 paper in the EXCLI Journal derived indoor air guidance values for six compounds that come off flexible polyurethane foam. It had to derive them because none existed. Several are marked tentative, because the data has gaps.
| Compound | Guidance value derived | Status | How we checked |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1-Chloro-2-propanol | 195 µg/m³ | derived | Published paper, open access, read 15 September 2026. |
| 2,2,3,3-Tetramethylsuccinodinitrile | 54 µg/m³ | tentative | Published paper, open access, read 15 September 2026. |
| Triethylenediamine | 7 to 900 µg/m³ depending on the effect | part tentative | Published paper, open access, read 15 September 2026. |
| Propanal | 200 to 300 µg/m³ | derived | Published paper, open access, read 15 September 2026. |
| Trimethylsilanol | 195 µg/m³ | tentative | Published paper, open access, read 15 September 2026. |
| Fluoro(trimethyl)silane | 107 to 442 µg/m³ | tentative | Published paper, open access, read 15 September 2026. |
A 2019 chamber study of eight polyurethane mattresses found that heat drove emission more than humidity or carbon dioxide did. Body heat is the one thing a sleeper cannot take out of the bed.
Now the finding that cuts the other way. A 2022 study in Chemosphere measured memory foam mattresses and concluded that the emissions are unlikely to put a consumer at risk. The literature does not agree with itself. Anyone who tells you it settles this in either direction has not read it.
Our answer needs none of that resolved. A Circadian pillow has no polyurethane in it. Nothing is glued, and nothing is sprayed on to slow a flame. Inside it is buckwheat, wool, cotton, kapok or tree-tapped latex, and the cover is organic cotton. If you would rather not referee a chemistry argument in your own bedroom, you can decline to have one.
What the market publishes here is thin. We read the published pages of 21 natural latex pillow brands between February and May 2026, ours among them. 21 of the 21 say anything at all about how the material was processed.

Dust mites, in the words of the people who study them
The 2013 practice parameter from the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology is what allergists work from. It reports that dust mites “maintain their water balance through uptake of water vapor when RH is at least approximately 65%”. They are “susceptible to water loss when humidity decreases below 65% and have decreased survival and reproduction with an RH below 50%”. Its advice to patients is that “relative humidity in the home should be kept at 35% to 50% to decrease the growth of dust mites”, and that “washing be performed at weekly intervals”.
So this is a humidity question before it is a bedding question. The useful thing to ask about a pillow is whether it stays dry, not what it claims to keep away. Wool takes up to 30 percent of its own weight in water vapour and hands it back to the room, and the heat leaves with it, so the air at your face stays cool. Cotton manages around 24 percent and holds it closer to the surface, which is why cotton suits a room that runs mildly warm. Polyester takes up under 1 percent, so there is nowhere for the heat to go but back into you.
How we checked. A desk study. Every cell is the brand's own published wording, read on its own product page between February and May 2026, with no figure inferred and nothing taken from a review site or a marketplace listing. Where a brand publishes no figure the cell reads not published, and that counts as a finding, because a buyer reading that page cannot know it either. Our own row is graded by the same rule as every other. Prices and policies move, so the price columns are the capture-window figures and not a live quote. The disclosure counts are what this study is about and they move far more slowly. The research above is cited so you can check it. That includes the 2022 paper whose conclusion runs against ours.

What Saatva does well and what it leaves to you
Saatva is a luxury mattress company, and bedding sits alongside the mattresses rather than at the center. Their service is strong: pillows ship in two to three business days, bedding comes with a 45-night trial and a full refund, and there is a real press room.
On pillows, three things are worth knowing.
They come in set heights. Saatva's latex pillows are sold in two heights chosen at purchase, Standard at four to five inches and High at six to seven. If you pick wrong, the pillow is wrong, and there are no exchanges on bedding: you return it and buy again.
The organic option is mostly latex. The Organic Quilted pillow is the one that competes with natural-material pillows, and Saatva describes it as a shredded natural latex core with an organic cotton cover quilted with organic New Zealand wool.
Their pillow pages do not say where a pillow is made.
The trial is 45 nights with free return postage, and they ask you to wash a used item before sending it back.
What we say about our own materials
Our wool pillow is organic wool inside a sateen-weave organic cotton shell, and the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) covers the wool and the cover together, under license GOTS-10229. The wool never touches your face; what your cheek rests on all night is the cotton.
Our latex is shredded slow-pour Dunlop, tapped from rubber trees in Sri Lanka with a shallow cut in the bark that leaves the tree healthy, with no synthetic rubber blended in. It is certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100 at Class 1, the strictest tier there is, the one used for products made for babies. That certificate covers the latex, not the finished pillow, and we say so rather than rounding up.

Who should buy which
Saatva sells through showrooms, so you can try a pillow in person first, and its delivery and returns operation is one of the best in the category. Its pillows come in two fixed heights, so you need to know yours before you buy.
Buy ours if you want to set the height yourself, if you want wool or buckwheat or cotton rather than latex, or if you want the certificate to cover the material inside and not only the cover.
The height question, which is why fixed pillows go back
There is no correct pillow height. A 2021 review of the evidence found no figure that works across sleepers. The right height depends on the gap between your mattress and your ear, and that gap is your shoulder width, your position and how far you sink in.
A fixed pillow asks you to guess that at checkout. An adjustable one lets you find it on night one. Ours arrives about a third fuller than most people keep it: open the zip, take material out until your head sits level with your shoulders, sleep three nights, then adjust again if you need to.

Questions people ask
What is a law label and why does it matter?
Most US states require a law label on every pillow and mattress sold there, declaring what is inside by percentage. It is the one piece of writing about a pillow that nobody in marketing controls. Saatva describes its Organic Quilted pillow openly: a shredded natural latex core in an organic cotton cover quilted with organic wool.
Are Saatva pillows adjustable?
Not as a feature. Saatva's latex pillows come in two set heights chosen at purchase, and there are no exchanges on bedding, so a wrong choice means returning and buying again.
What does OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class 1 mean?
It is the strictest tier of the standard, the one used for products made for babies, and it tests the finished material. Circadian latex carries it. The certificate covers the latex rather than the whole finished pillow, which is a distinction worth holding any brand to.
