What happens to a natural brand inside a big group

Birch sits under 3Z Brands, the group that also runs Helix, Brooklyn Bedding, Bear, Leesa and Nolah. That structure is common now and it is worth understanding rather than holding against anyone.

What the group gives a brand. Manufacturing scale, a warehouse, real customer service, financing, and an advertising budget. Those are genuine benefits and they show up as free shipping, and Birch lets you return a pillow within 30 nights.

What it takes away. A brand inside a group makes what the group's lines can make. Pillows get specified for a factory that runs many brands, which favours a small number of fixed products over a wide range of adjustable ones. The natural-materials brand in a group is usually the one with the tightest catalog.

So the question to ask a group-owned natural brand is how many choices it gives you, rather than whether it takes materials seriously.

What 21 natural latex brands charge, and what you can work out from it

We read the published pages of 21 natural latex pillow brands between February and May 2026, ours included. Every one prints a price. 8 of the 21 publish enough to work out what you are paying per pound of material. The rest print a number with nothing behind it.

How we checked. A desk study. Every cell is the brand's own published wording, read on its own product page between February and May 2026, with no figure inferred and nothing taken from a review site or a marketplace listing. Where a brand publishes no figure the cell reads not published, and that counts as a finding, because a buyer reading that page cannot know it either. Our own row is graded by the same rule as every other. Prices and policies move, so the price columns are the capture-window figures and not a live quote. The disclosure counts are what this study is about and they move far more slowly. Cost per night divides the published price by a fixed lifespan applied equally to every brand, so the column compares brands rather than predicting your pillow.

What to check on any latex pillow

Latex is the material where the marketing and the substance drift furthest apart, so three checks are worth doing on anyone's page, ours included.

Dunlop or Talalay. Two different pouring processes. Most pillows sold as natural latex are Dunlop. Talalay is a different, lighter feel and a different price, and brands are not always clear about which they are selling.

Solid or shredded. A solid core holds one shape and cannot be adjusted. Shredded latex adds airflow and, with a zip, lets you take pieces out.

What the certificate covers. This is where it gets slippery. GOLS certifies latex made with at least 95 percent certified organic raw latex, which is a different test from the screen on the finished foam. OEKO-TEX Standard 100 at Class 1 tests the finished material against the strictest tier there is, the one used for products made for babies. Our latex is certified at Class 1, and that certificate covers the latex rather than the whole pillow, which we state rather than round up.

Who should buy which

Birch's strength is the set: if you are buying a Birch mattress, their pillows come from the same maker. But the height your neck needs comes from your shoulders and how far you sink in, and neither of their pillows opens to adjust; the Talalay one comes in two heights chosen at checkout.

Buy ours if you want to set the height yourself, or if you want a material their range does not carry, which is most of them.

Why fixed heights go back

There is no correct pillow height. A 2021 review of the published evidence found no figure that works across sleepers. The right height is set by the gap between your mattress and your ear, and that gap is your shoulder width, your position and how far you sink in.

A fixed pillow asks you to guess that at checkout, from a photograph. That is why "too high" and "too flat" are the two most common reasons any pillow comes back, and it is the problem a zip solves permanently.

Ours arrives about a third fuller than most people keep it. Open it on night one, take material out until your ear sits over your shoulder with your head level rather than tipped, sleep three nights at that height, then adjust again if you need to. Give it a few weeks before you judge the pillow itself.
