Every soft fill loses height the longer your head sits on it, which is why you wake up in a divot. Buckwheat hulls move into position and then interlock, so the shape you make when you lie down is the shape you still have when you wake up.

Thousands of hulls shift as you settle and then interlock into a cradle that holds your neck in line rather than letting it drop. That is why this is the pillow physical therapists tend to name, and it is the reason most people buy it.
Every hull is polished before it goes in.
A raw buckwheat hull is a rough pyramid with sharp edges, and a pillow full of them sounds like gravel. We polish ours smooth first, which breaks those edges down and cuts the movement noise by up to 68 percent. They are USA-grown, air-jet cleaned and UV sterilised, with no chemical treatment anywhere in the process.
Pour some out. That is the whole adjustment.
It arrives full. The right amount is the amount that keeps your neck level, and that is different for a side sleeper and a back sleeper.
Make a mound.
Push the hulls into a low mound in the middle and rest your head into it, rather than lying flat on top of them.
Pour out what you do not need.
Open the side zipper over a container and tip. Side sleepers keep more, back sleepers keep less, stomach sleepers keep very little.
Sleep on it three nights.
Hulls feel unfamiliar on night one to nearly everyone, and nearly everyone stops noticing by night three. Judge it then, not before.
Reshape it each night.
Ten seconds of pushing the hulls into a mound is part of using this pillow, the same way you fluff any other.
Keep the extras.
Store them dry. They go back in whenever you want more height.
What you are not sleeping on.

The hulls are grown and processed in the USA and carry no separate organic certification, so you will not see a certification mark on this pillow. The cover is organic cotton. Handmade in our New Jersey workshop.

Pour the hulls into a dry container before the cover goes anywhere near water.
Wash the cover cold
Machine wash cold, air dry, then refill. Sponge spots with cool water in between.
Air the hulls in the sun
Spread them on a tray in sunlight a few times a year to keep them dry and fresh.
Hulls last for years, then slowly break down into finer pieces. When that happens you refill through the zipper and the pillow is new again, which is why this is the one pillow you may never replace.

There is a soft rustle when you move, more like dry leaves than gravel, because we polish every hull smooth first. That cuts the sound by up to 68 percent against unpolished hulls. Most people stop noticing within a week.
Then there are too many hulls in it. Pour some out. Most people take out more than they expect on the first night, and the pillow is designed for exactly that.
Hulls are dense, which is also why the pillow stays where you put it instead of sliding around. A Standard runs about eight pounds.
Three to five years of nightly use before they start breaking down. Replacement hulls are the same USA-grown, polished hulls, and refilling costs a fraction of a new pillow.
