Organic wool holds up to 30 percent of its weight in moisture while the surface stays dry. That is how a Circadian Organic Wool Pillow handles night sweats. The air it holds also stays too dry for dust mites to settle in. Both come from the fiber itself, so there is no treatment to wash out. The wool will eventually settle with use, and when it does, this refill brings the height back without replacing the pillow.
This refill is the same organic wool used in every Circadian Organic Wool Pillow. It is sold by weight, so you top up to the firmness you want. The wool comes as soft sheets stacked together, the same way it sits inside the pillow. Open the pillow's side zipper, lay in a sheet at a time until the height feels right, seal it back up. Wool's natural springiness means even a single added sheet lifts the height noticeably.
Certifications
Certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), under Oregon Tilth license GOTS-10229. An auditor goes through what went into the wool every year. Sourced from sheep raised on certified organic farms in New Zealand, scoured without chlorine bleach or harsh detergents. Same fiber, same supply chain, same audit trail as the pillow it goes into.
How much wool you need
A pillow holds less wool than almost anyone guesses. That is why these sizes go further than they sound. These are the amounts we weigh into each size on the bench:
| Size |
Dimensions |
Wool inside |
| Travel |
12" x 16" |
0.8 lb |
| Standard |
20" x 26" |
2.8 lb |
| Queen |
20" x 30" |
3.4 lb |
| King |
20" x 36" |
4.3 lb |
| Body |
20" x 72" |
9 lb |
Which means 1 lb tops up any pillow and rebuilds a travel one outright. 3 lb rebuilds a Standard from empty. 5 lb does a Queen or a King. 10 lb is the body pillow size.
If you are topping up rather than starting over, buy the 1 lb. Wool goes back in the bag whenever you want it, and a sheet you have not opened out keeps for years.
How to use it
Open the side zipper on your Circadian Organic Wool Pillow, peel a sheet off the outside of the stack, and pull it flat between your hands so it opens up properly rather than bunching into a clump. Lay it in, add another sheet if the height still feels low, and seal it back up. If you overshoot, take a whole sheet back off the outside of the stack and set it aside, rather than reaching into the middle. It goes back in whenever you want it. The first night with new wool may feel slightly firmer until it settles into your sleep position.
Airing in fresh wool
Freshly added wool sits denser than the wool already in the pillow. Leave it exposed to room air, or set it in indirect sunlight for an afternoon, and it clears on its own.
