Hull Amount
Same fill as the Buckwheat Pillow

Pre-polished, air-jet cleaned, UV-sterilized USA-grown buckwheat hulls. The same hulls we put in our Buckwheat Pillow.

How to use it

Open the side zipper on your existing pillow. Pour in hulls until the loft sits where you want. The bag re-seals so you can save extras for next time.

Pre-polished for quieter hulls

Our hulls run through a proprietary polishing process that breaks the sharp pyramid corners into individual flat sides. That cuts the rustle by up to 68% compared to unpolished hulls.

Triple-cleaned. No chemicals.

Hulls are pre-polished, air-jet cleaned, then UV-sterilized. No synthetic pesticide, no chemical treatment, no fire retardant.

The same pre-polished USA-grown buckwheat hulls we use in every Circadian Buckwheat Pillow, available as a standalone refill. Buckwheat hulls eventually break down into smaller fragments under the weight of nightly use, and when they do, the pillow loses its firm cervical support. Topping up the hulls (or fully replacing them) brings the pillow back to day-one feel without replacing the whole thing.

Most buckwheat pillows on the market use roasted three-sided pyramid hulls, which are pointy, loud against the face through the pillowcase, and faster to crumble. Ours go through an air-jet cleaning process that breaks them into single-sided polished pieces before they go into the cover. That cuts the rustling by up to 68 percent and makes the surface softer against the skin without changing the flex-and-lock support buckwheat is known for. Grown and air-jet processed in the United States, then sealed clean before shipping.

What you get

Available in 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, and 200 pound sealed bags. A Standard pillow typically holds about 6 to 8 pounds of hulls, a Queen 8 to 10, a King 10 to 12. Top-ups usually need 2 to 3 pounds; full replacements need closer to a full pillow's weight.

How to use it

Open the side zipper on your Circadian Buckwheat Pillow and add hulls a few handfuls at a time. Test the loft and firmness after each round because buckwheat is dense and small additions make a real difference. Side sleepers will usually want the pillow fuller for height; back sleepers usually want fewer hulls for a lower profile. Store unused hulls in the sealed bag away from moisture so they don't absorb humidity.

Certifications

The hulls themselves are USA-grown and processed without synthetic pesticides or chemical treatment, so they don't carry a formal organic certification (GOTS audits textile fiber supply chains, not agricultural byproducts like hulls). The organic cotton cover on the pillow they go into is GOTS Certified Organic under Oregon Tilth license GOTS-10229.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use these hulls in any buckwheat pillow?

Yes. The hulls work in any zippered buckwheat pillow, ours or another brand. Open the side zipper on your existing pillow and pour in as many hulls as you want to restore the loft. The hulls are pre-polished and air-jet cleaned the same way as the fill in our Buckwheat Pillow.

How often should I refill a buckwheat pillow?

Most people top off every three to five years. The hulls slowly break down under nightly head weight and the pillow loses some loft. You will feel it before the cover shows it. Add a handful at a time until the height matches your shoulder width when you lie on your side.

Are these hulls pre-polished?

Yes. The hulls are pre-polished and air-jet cleaned in our proprietary process, which breaks the sharp pyramid corners into individual flat sides. That cuts the rustle by up to 68% compared to standard buckwheat hulls and prevents sharp edges from poking through your cover. They are then UV-sterilized without chemicals.

Where are the buckwheat hulls grown?

USA, on regional farms. Buckwheat hulls are an agricultural byproduct of buckwheat grain harvesting and we use hulls grown without synthetic pesticide treatment.

How much hull do I need to refill a pillow?

It depends on the size of your pillow and how much loft has compressed. A standard buckwheat pillow holds about 8 pounds of hulls when fully stuffed. Most refill jobs use 1 to 3 pounds. Start small and add a handful at a time until the loft sits right.
