A pillow you can scrunch and a pillow that stays cool are usually two different pillows.

Lissa sleeps somewhere between her side and her stomach, likes a pillow she can fold under her head, and lives in Florida. Kapok is the one fill that answers all three at once, which is why hers was the kapok.

Her non-toxic bedroom write-up is still coming.

For Clean AF Life readers

The one she sleeps on, and the two that answer the same question differently.

Stomach and side sleepers want the least height in the lineup and the most give. That is kapok, and once you know why it works you can see what the wool and the cotton are trading away to do their own jobs.

Wild-Harvested Kapok

Every fiber is a hollow tube 80 to 90 percent air with a wall one to two microns thick, so a pillow full of it weighs almost nothing and folds under your head like down. The outside of that wall carries a natural waxy coating that repels water, which is why mold has nothing to establish on and nothing has to be applied to keep it that way. The pods are hand-harvested from Ceiba trees in Indonesia and nothing chemical touches the fiber on the way to the pillow. Organic cotton cover.

Organic Wool

You stay cool because you stay dry. Each fiber pulls up to 30 percent of its own weight in moisture off your skin and holds it inside the strand, so the air at your face never turns damp and heat keeps leaving your body. Lanolin coats the skin flakes dust mites feed on, and the dry surface keeps humidity below what they need to live. Certified organic across the fill and the cover together on licence GOTS-10229 through Oregon Tilth.

Organic Cotton

The densest fill we make. Long-staple cotton compresses slowly and evenly under the weight of your head, so the height you set on night three is close to the height you have on night three hundred, with nothing sinking away by four in the morning. It is what people choose when they want a pillow that behaves the way pillows are supposed to behave. Certified organic end to end on licence GOTS-10229.

The full lineup

Six natural fills, one workshop.

Every pillow shares the same organic cotton cover and comes out of the same partner workshop in New Jersey, which has been making natural bedding since 1981.

A note from Circadian

Why we built a page for Clean AF Life.

Lissa grew up in New Jersey, and every Circadian pillow is sewn in New Jersey by a workshop that has been making natural bedding since 1981. That is a coincidence rather than a reason to work together, but it is the sort of coincidence worth mentioning to somebody from the state.

The reason she got kapok and not the cotton she might have expected is that she told us how she sleeps before we picked. Stomach and side sleepers need the least height of anyone, and a dense fill under a stomach sleeper pushes the head back and the neck with it. Kapok gives way, folds, and stays cool while it does it. Guessing would have been faster and would probably have been wrong.

Two of our six fills carry the Global Organic Textile Standard across the finished pillow on licence GOTS-10229 through Oregon Tilth, and those are the organic cotton and the organic wool. Kapok is a wild-harvested seed fiber and falls outside the scope of textile certification, so it carries an organic cotton cover and we tell you exactly what does and does not happen to it.

Work it down slowly, the way she did.

Every Circadian pillow arrives full, about a third more than most people keep, because it is easier to take some out than to wish you had more. Open the side zipper, take out a handful at a time, and stop when your head sits level with your shoulders. Stomach sleepers usually take out more than anyone else, sometimes half. If you go too far, it goes back in, and you can change your mind again on night forty.

What her readers ask first

I sleep on my stomach. Is any pillow right for that?

The one that gets closest to no pillow at all. A stomach sleeper's head is already near the mattress, so extra height pushes the neck back into an angle it holds for hours. Kapok goes lowest and gives the most, and because it ships full you can take it down as far as you want and still have the fill in hand if you overdo it.

Does kapok get musty in a humid climate?

The fiber wall carries a natural waxy coating that repels water, so it does not hold damp the way down does and mold has nothing to grow on. Air it in indirect sun for a couple of hours every few months and it stays fresh. The cover unzips and goes in the machine on cold whenever you want it fresh.

Is there a discount code?

There is no public discount code. Circadian runs its partner programme through Impact rather than coupon codes, so anything Lissa shares with you will be a tracked link instead.

How long does an order take to arrive?

Every pillow is made to order in one New Jersey workshop. Four to seven days to build, plus transit, and a tracking number goes out the day it leaves. Free shipping. Sleep on it for up to 60 nights and return it for a full refund if it is wrong for you.
